Michael has many hobbies, has had a few professions, and is a strong believer in cross discipline problem solving. He has worked in ACAD since R12, Revit since 6.1, and has learned a bunch of things from working with Legos, wood, scenic design, SFX, security, machining, sewing, cooking, explosives and gardening - all influencing his design philosophy, choice of tools, and preference for using apt, if sometimes unconventional tools. For the last 20 years he's been focused pretty heavily on BIM.

Content Licensing Challenges

BIM is a high trust environment where we seek collaboration to produce better outcomes. The entire point of BIM is to share data. The majority of BIM content available for download today has licensing terms which prohibit the use of those files in a commercial setting, much less resharing it. How are we supposed to collaborate if we can not share content? How are we supposed to specify a manufacturer's product if they say we can not load it into our files?

-What are common problems with licenses?
-Why are these problems so pervasive?
-What can we do to fix it from the user side, or the content provider side?
-How should granular data be licensed in BIM to facilitate collaboration?
