Teresa Afonso is an Architect currently working for the architectural company NLA, focused on the way BIM can improve teams’ productivity and companies return. Graduated in Faculty of Architecture in the University of Lisbon, after finishing the Master’s Degree in Housing Teresa entered NLA where she develop her work as a BIM architect and became the BIM Manager of the company. Teresa is not only an Architect and BIM Manager, but also a BIM Consultant (BIMit), BIM Developer and an Autodesk Certified Professional and Trainer in the Certified Academy Lusocuanza. As a BIM Manager, Teresa’s work is to create the environment, methods and tools for teams to develop the best work possible. This means creating the most complete libraries and templates, creating processes and auxiliary documentation, but also, creating automation to gain productivity, using dynamo and python. Teresa was a speaker in the following events: PTBIM22 (Portuguese BIM Congress) - Presenting an article by her authorship “BIM Implementation in NLA”; BIMcentro22 - Portuguese BIM event where she presented the BIM work that has been developed in NLA; Make anywhere – Autodesk & Lusocuanza - Virtual event presenting the state of art regarding BIM in NLA. Wrote the following articles: Author: “BIM Implementation in NLA” – PTBIM22; Co-Author: “BIM as a multidisciplinary tool in all project stages” – PTBIM22; Author: Autodesk’s success case: “Prepare the future, create and model beyond the projects’ life.” Has the following certifications: Autodesk Certified Trainer; Autodesk Certified Professional. Relevant Training: BIM according to ISO 19650; Python; Dynamo; Dynamo – Python Scripting; Navisworks; Revit Advanced

What to expect during the event

As an architectural company we are challenged daily to be able to generate the necessary output throughout all the stages of the project directly with BIM software. We all know that softwares such as Revit, which is NLA’s election for BIM modelling, are not totally prepared to give the user all the tools needed to produce the documentation expected. Mainly because a lot of times the output and the data a company expects is very customized or country related. Most of companies end up using a mix of softwares in order to guarantee the output they want, this means a lot of time and data wasted, and multiple sources of incoherent data. We are focused in creating not only the most customized libraries and templates to reduce time in production, but also creating automations that will not only increase productivity but also prevent human error. In order to solve this issue, we started developing scripts using dynamo, but currently we believe that python is the best option to create our own tools which allows us to generate the data and outputs we need. For example, we are now able to automatically generate our Bill Off Quantities to a formatted xlsx and to report all the finishes modelled by room in a standard schedule. Many other automations were created for simpler but very meaningful for workflow, that we wish to present. The goal of this article is to share our experience and show that everything regarding an architectural project can be created and controlled inside Revit, making sure there is only a source of truth.
