I am a structural engineer, graduated from Ain Shams University in 2013 with a grade (Very Good with honors). I finished my Master of science studies from Cairo University in 2022 in the program “Integrated Engineering Design Management” (IEDM). The topics concerned BIM technology and construction engineering management. The thesis discussed the implementation of bridge Information Modelling in the bridge’s construction and traffic work zone. I worked as a construction site engineer and a technical engineer in bridges construction projects including cable-stay bridges, stations and administerial buildings for rail projects, and water treatment stations. I applied the gained knowledge and experience in BIM technology through the projects I worked in.

What to expect during the event

The Presentation presents a framework for visualizing bridge construction impact on work zone traffic using Bridge Information Modelling (BrIM) and Google Maps API. It consists of four modules.  The first module contains the construction data of the bridge by reporting the construction daily progress. It determines the positions of cranes and the number of occupied lanes actual detours in each construction stage.  The second module is designated to model traffic data of the work zone using Google Maps API, traffic Survey counting, and Google Earth Images.  The third module analyzes the construction data of the first module and the traffic data of the second module by combing the corresponding data, performing a traffic simulation for the work zone and calculating the user cost of different stages.  The fourth module visualizes the construction of the bridge using Bridge Information Modelling (BrIM) where the surrounding environment is captured using Autodesk Infraworks. The module utilizes virtual reality in the Twinmotion engine. An actual case study of El-Nahas Bridge in Cairo city-Egypt where the study results reveal that the impact of the construction stages varies on work zone traffic throughout the project period. The impact has a great influence on the traffic status at the beginning of the project associated with high user costs. Then, the impact declines in later stages depending on the type of construction activities in each stage.
