Karthik V is an enthusiastic BIM Leader having great experience and exceptional insight. He started his Carrier as a site supervisor in 90’s, always had a vision to explore new technologies instead of old days manual drafting. His desires to advance his career, helped him to secure an opportunity in Singapore to work as a BIM Modeler for CWRP Project in early 2000. Enhanced his skills to the next level by attaining hands-on-experience on a wide range of Bentley Tools for 3D (Bentley Triforma), 2D (MicroStation), 4D (Bentley Navigator), 5D (Bentley Triforma) & 6D (ODBC).
“I had a comprehensive learning experience when I worked with A1 contractor who helped me to develop my skills further on Architecture, Structure and MEP. I had an opportunity to explore X-steel which is now called Trimble Tekla Structures whilst working on Stadium and Payalebar MRT projects “, said Karthik.

Architectural Consultant at AEDAS added new essence to his carrier with exposure in acquiring skills on Architectural submission requirement for CP83 and LTA standards. Down-Town MRT line is one of his key projects helped him to obtain experience in BIM Implementations. “Handling People mind-set is the key in BIM Implementation”, said Karthik.

ARUP Singapore provided him an excellent opportunity to work on Buildings & Infrastructure projects such as Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Sports Hub, Singapore Pavilion (Shanghai) etc. utilizing wide range of tools like Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Bentley AECOsim etc. He said “POC for LTA BIM Implementation is an interesting part in my carrier where I setup the BIM standards and trained around 40 individuals for 90 days in different set of tools, tips and tricks “.

He said, “Passionate in training and Proud to be a part-time lecturer in BCA Academy, National University Singapore and Singapore Institutes”.

He is a great example of distinguished speaker series which provide benefits to many students.

Karthik is currently partnering and working as Operations Director at ByBiTech Singapore and providing leadership.

 What to expect during the event

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the cornerstone of digital transformation in the architecture, engineering, construction, and operation (AECO) industry. Building information modelling (BIM) is a process supported by various tools, technologies and contracts involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places.

BIM has a wide range of tools and techniques that includes Authoring tools that allows you to develop libraries and object that can manage project wide, allows team to share information and communicate through a central model simultaneously regardless of location. Analysis tools allows to analyze and predict the model behavior and validate the model compliance with standards. Coordination tools allows to perform clash detection and visualize the assembly of building based on scheduling. Model review tools allows you to understand and evaluate model content. Model Quantity Take-off tools extract quantities automatically from the design files. File sharing tools allows model to transfer and archive and review files. Facility Management tools helps in space management, strategic planning, asset management and facility maintenance. One tool doesn’t fit all file format. Different software venders come with different file formats.

Building information models (BIMs) are file systems often but not always in proprietary formats and containing proprietary data which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a built asset. Open BIM standards promote free information exchange such as IFC format developed by BuildingSMART.

BIM is seen to be closely related to Integrated project delivery (IPD) where the primary motive is to bring the teams together early during the project.
