Alan is one of the co-founders of the Construction IT Alliance (CitA) and discipline lead for Quantity Surveying in TU Dublin. Alan completed a Phd in Trinity College Dublin in 2007 and has an extensive portfolio of published work in the discipline area of Construction Informatics over the past 20 years. In addition to leading CitA's network vision for over 20 years, Alan has been successful in securing important roles in the digital transition of the Irish construction industry. Alan was the Principal Investigator on the BIM Innovation Capability Programme (BICP) between 2015-2017 funded by Enterprise Ireland which led to the publication of the National BIM Council Road Map in 2018. In 2021 Alan joined the Build Digital Project as co-chair of the Digital Procurement pillar and more recently Alan was successful alongside colleagues in TU Dublin in securing funding for a Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund project A-EYE with two established tech companies in Ireland. Alan is a regular contributor to national and international conferences on the subject area of Digital Construction and is passionate the see real change in the industry to one that is more collaborative and digitally enabled.

 What to expect during the event

Alan's presentation will focus on an overview of international examples of information management frameworks in construction, with a particular focus on frameworks designed to manage information over the whole life cycle of a built asset using building information modelling. This work forms part of the deliverables for the Digital Procurement pillar on the Build Digital Project and will help inform the early development of a national Information Management framework in Ireland which will require wider stakeholder throughout the 5-year lifetime of the Build Digital Project (2021-2025). While the presentation will broadly focus on the experiences in the UK, Scandinavia and Australasia, there will be specific reference to important developments across the EU and other regions in the world.
